A good sports commercial can capture the heart of sport. As one example, the determination and drive to win after a tough defeat is captured in this commercial for Dick’s Sporting Goods. Of course, Nike’s “Just Do It” series is the grand-daddy of this genre.
This 30-second comedic offering by Kids Foot Locker starts off with the time-honored shot of a boy imagining the last seconds of a game in which he is setting up to take the winning shot:
“It’s do or die. Alex Tayler has the ball for the final shot . . .” Time ticks down. “3…2…1” He puts up the shot — and . . .
Out of nowhere, NBA phenom Anthony Davis swats the ball away, and with a slack jawed Alex Taylor looking on, takes over the play-by-play call with his monotone dead-pan delivery:
“REJECTED by Anthony Davis. The stadium is shaking. The fans have never seen anything like this in their life before. Davis is unbelievable. The crowd is chanting MVP-MVP-MVP. What a hustle play! He has been on fire all night….!”
Ahhhh. Sports!
