Life is short, to make the best of the time we have on earth we should be doing everything we can to be happy and live to our best potential. We all get sad at times and it’s easy to fall into a rut, but it doesn’t mean that’s how it has to stay. If you want to genuinely improve you life, here are a few things to try.
- Go back to school. This doesn’t necessarily mean quitting your job and going to college or university – unless you want to of course! These days you can study just about anything you want online, in a flexible way at times that suit you. Whether you want to improve your current career by studying for an online supply chain management degree or change completely by studying criminal profiling or forensics the list is endless! Even if you’re not looking to improve your career, going back to school and learning new things can help to give you knowledge, open your mind and teach you new skills.
- Get out of debt. Whether we like it or not, money makes the world go round. We need it to put a roof over our head, so we can eat, clothe ourselves and generally survive and thrive. There’s so much more to life than money, but not being in control of it can cause so much unnecessary stress. If you’re being hounded by creditors, come up with a plan of action. It could mean making cutbacks or selling items you don’t need to pay down balances. It could mean speaking to a debt management agency, or even going bankrupt. While this is extreme, if you’re genuinely unable to pay your debts it means creditors will no longer be able to pursue you and you can put your financial history behind you.
- Travel. Travel doesn’t have to be expensive. You could go camping, or use public transport to visit a new place in the country where you live and have a walk around. You could go backpacking, or go and stay with friends in different countries or cities. You could volunteer abroad, lots of companies will give you a place to stay and food in return for your time, you will have to work but you get to make a genuine difference and see a new part of the world.
- Focus on health. We only get one body, so it’s crucial to treat it well. Focusing on health will truly allow you to live your best life. Find an exercise you enjoy and move your body. It doesn’t have to be slogging it out at the gym or going for a run at 6 AM. It could be swimming, hiking, biking or a sport. Add lots of fruits and vegetables to each meal, you don’t have to feel deprived as you can still eat the things you like. Just practice moderation, and watch your portion sizes. Sleep is a very important aspect of health, with lack of sleep long-term contributing to lots of different health issues. Rework your schedule so you have time to relax in the evening and enjoy a better quality of sleep. Your mental health is important too, find activities you enjoy and speak to your doctor if you’re worried about your mood or emotional state. Looking after your health will give you the energy and vigor for life that you need to get up every day and make the best of things.
