Love is a language, and it has many dialects. We each speak and understand a few, but if we don’t speak and understand the same dialects as our partner then we experience a lack of love.
Our love-needs simply aren’t met when they show us love in a different dialect than we speak or understand. For some it’s touch. For others, it is acts of service, or it could be sharing quality time, receiving positive and encouraging words, or receiving gifts.
Success at love requires that we learn which dialects we speak and which our partner speaks, and love accordingly.
