We knew he had been traumatized in the first few years of his life. Nobody, however, knew of his broken heart. From what we heard, Romeo had been chained to a balcony, beaten and malnourished. It took a while for him to learn to trust us, his new owners. But he never got rid of many of his fears. The vet was one of them. So when Romeo needed treatment, he needed sedation. His heart couldn’t handle it. Somewhere I read that it is a greater compliment to be trusted than to be loved. We buried him in our garden.
