As summer winds its way down, most people start preparing for the cold weather ahead, taking their coats out from storage and dusting off their boots. Some people, however, use this time of year to get away, to travel the world in luxury, taking in the best that autumn has to offer.
These fall luxury trips can be pricey, certainly, but they aren’t beyond the realm of possibility for most people. Sure, to afford some of the fancier hotels on this list you would have to wake up tomorrow to a jackpot in your LottosOnline.com account, but the majority of places here can be afforded with some dedicated saving. Here are the top 5, quintessential fall luxury destinations, in no particular order.
Manhattan
NYC as a whole is beautiful during the fall months, but there is something particularly grand about Manhattan. Maybe it’s the fact that Central Park, the huge, famous park at its centre, plays host to such a variety of foliage, or maybe it’s because, after the hot New York summer, the city seems to come alive in the fall. Stay in Midtown Manhattan for the peak luxury experience but be prepared to shell out the big bucks for accommodation. A night’s stay at a Manhattan hotel can very easily start in the $500 range – with, of course, the sky being the limit.
Tokyo
Japanese culture places a strong emphasis on seasonality, and as such Tokyo hosts many festivals celebrating the different periods of fall. The swaying maple trees along Tokyo’s river, mixed with the flashy digital billboards of the city’s major intersections create a striking and unique dichotomy: nature and technology live side-by-side here. For added luxury, try one of Japan’s famous kaiseki meals, multi-course fine dining meals that emphasize seasonality and locality – expect to spend at least $300 dollars on a kaiseki meal though.
Munich
There’s no beating Munich in the fall, and that’s for one, infamous reason: Oktoberfest. While Oktoberfest might not seem like a luxury trip, it most certainly is these days. If you aren’t planning on staying at a youth hostel (and you probably aren’t) the city’s hotels charge a premium, and they book up quickly. But it is all worth it for the cultural experience. For some added luxury, purchase VIP access to some of the beer halls, where the service and quality of the food are more than exceptional.
Danube River Cruise
To get a less raucous European fall experience than Oktoberfest, try one of the Danube river cruises. The Danube river cuts through many of Central/Eastern Europe’s most luxurious cities, including Budapest, Vienna and Belgrade. The cruise may be costly, but you will be rewarded with European old world charm in the best possible way; fall foliage, mild weather and elegant baroque architecture. For added luxury, at each city stop, make sure to organize a guided tour.
Fall weather doesn’t mean you can’t take a luxurious vacation. Try one of these amazing fall spots this fall – your wallet might not thank you, but you will have an unforgettable time.
