It’s no secret that people become desensitized to homelessness and poverty, but one social experiment shows just how easy it can be to block out those in need.
The French creators of the video, “Le poids des apparences,” had someone dress up as both a homeless person and a businessman, and captured the reactions of pedestrians who came across the men sprawled on the sidewalk.
Despite calling for help multiple times, the fake beggar receives a number of looks but no real assistance in over five minutes on the ground.
While it might not be the first video of its kind, it’s an important reminder that while our appearances may differ, we are all human beings.
