Do You Have a Spirit Animal Like James Rodriguez?

grass copy

Dillan DiGiovanni thinks this little green dude might be the spirit animal of James Rodriguez.

Did you hear about the massive insect that landed on the Columbian soccer team’s member, James Rodriguez, right before he took a penalty kick in the game against Brazil?

While the internet freaked out about the sheer size of it, according to this article on Buzzfeed, I thought of something different.

Maybe it was his spirit or totem animal.

What? You’ve never heard of a spirit/totem/power animal before? Well, I dug this up on a website to explain it:

Think of your spirit animal as a guardian spirit or spirit guide. It can play the role of protector and provides guidance. It’s like a “personal guide or protector” that has a personal affinity with the person it’s associated with.

According to this site, the grasshopper (perhaps the insect that landed on his arm) symbolizes patience to be bold and move with pride and grace. You can read more here.

Is this massive insect connected to Rodriguez in some spiritual way? Did it land on him at exactly that time to help him make the kick? Was it total coincidence or something more?

Have you ever considered what your spirit or totem animal might be?

I have a deep connection to turtles. I feel drawn to them. Something about them just really interests me and there’s a vibe there I can’t really explain nor do I have it as strongly with other animals or insects. I first noticed this during a kayak trip down a canal in Princeton, NJ in 2005. I hung out with a couple today.

I should say, though, for as much as I love turtles, they might have some competition for my current spirit animal. While sitting on a bench today, this tiny little dragonfly landed on the book I was reading about personal transformation and change. Check out this paragraph about dragonflies from the site I referenced above:

Dragonfly embodies the pure essence and beautiful balance of changes in emotional/mental aspects and the effects on the body, mind and spirit. Her message speaks of transformation; shedding old illusions, releasing old perceptions and changing habits. Change IS inevitable. Dragonfly teaches the mastery of moving with speed, agility and precision with grace. She prepares you for a heightened period of intuition, visions, dreams and overall visual and spiritual acuity. She speaks true transformation with many changes that are very swift with emphasis on the emotional and un/subconscious. She teaches changes can be positive or negative, it depends on your level of acceptance of that change – just accept and allow the rebirth to happen. She reminds you of the spiritual support by the many that are assisting your development. It is time to keep your balance in the storm. Dragonfly will guide you through the transformation.

Since I am in a period of massive transformation and change right now, I definitely believe there might be something to this totem animal thing…

It’s worth considering if totem or spirit animals is something that inspires or interests you.
