Playing the Hand You’re Dealt

When you realize your Rock God is mortal.

After four decades wading knee deep in the trenches of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll, Lemmy from Motorhead is going through a bad patch.

The 69 year old front man recently walked off stage mid concert and the band has begun cancelling shows.

In light of Lemmy’s mythical lifetime of excess, its easy to label his current health as inevitable cumulative damage.

However, considering that 68 years is the average life expectancy at birth for males of the global population, it could be argued that his life seems to be on track to a life well lived.

As Lemmy so eloquently puts it “I don’t wanna live for ever, And don’t forget the joker!”

Update – Lemmy passed away on December 29, 2015. He turned 70 a few days before.

Ace of Spades

by Eddie Clarke, Ian Kilmister, Phil Taylor

If you like to gamble, I tell you I’m your man,
You win some, lose some, all the same to me,
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say,
I don’t share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil,
Going with the flow, it’s all the game to me,
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you,
Double up or quit, double stake or split,
The Ace Of Spades

You know I’m born to lose, and gambling’s for fools,
But that’s the way I like it baby,
I don’t wanna live for ever,
And don’t forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you wanna see me,
Read ’em and weep, the dead man’s hand again,
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die,
The only thing you see, you know it’s gonna be,
The Ace Of Spades
