The guy in the yellow didn't read Good Sports ...
Last Tuesday, we launched the magazine’s long-awaited sports section. With yours truly as editor, Good Sports is bound to go down in flames, ending in a horrible, unspeakable death for everyone involved. But for now, its doing pretty damn well, so we’re gonna enjoy the success. Deadspin helped us to a great start, and some great content has really sustained us since.
- Our big headliner this week was the All-Steroids Team. For the next few weeks we’ll be inducting one new member, every weekday. You won’t find guys like Sosa or McGwire on the roster—instead, it’s a bunch of average talents who used PEDs to take a brief step into the spotlight before quickly fading back out. The forgettable Gary Matthews Jr. and the great Todd Hundley are the first two members. Check back next week as we fill out the rest of the juiced-up lineup card.
- We also dipped into the endless abyss/treasure trove that is YouTube to debut the Essential YouTube Sports Library, where we’ll be writing essays about essential YouTube sports videos. Duh. Basically, it’s just our excuse to spend hours on YouTube and still call it work. Vince Carter was the first subject. His career defines what the EYSL is all about.
- Also: Dana White is a scary dude, but a good man at heart.
- And you’ve played pickup basketball—or pickup “something”—before. You know all the characters that come through these spur-of-the-moment games. We broke down the 10 worst.
- Good Men Picks—my weekly indulgence into personal bias and opinion—has moved to the sports section. If you still want to read about me picking games based on absurd, completely subjective, moralistic, non-sporting standards, head to Good Sports—not the blog. This week I made my first NBA pick of the year, and based off of the first comment, things are going really well:
This was almost funny, no, almost laughable. No it’s not. What it is: terribly written stream of consciousness blather. Next time—get a premise, develop the premise, analyze the premise, come to a point worth making. Maybe after you start shaving.
