Georgia Church Welcomes All Boy Scouts

In Marietta, GA, one church is banning the Boy Scouts, but another church welcomes them in.

Since The Boy Scouts of America voted to end its ban on gay youth, there has been an uproar on both sides of the debate, especially in church communities.

In one Georgia town, two churches have taken opposing sides. Roswell Street Baptist in Marietta has chosen to ban scouts altogether if gay scouts aren’t banned.

“We don’t even want their stench in here,” said Dr. Ernest Easley, senior pastor at Roswell Street Baptist, in an interview with CBS Atlanta.

While one church shoos the boys out the door, another church is opening their arms to let them in. On the other side of town, One World Spiritual Center has put up a sign to let the Boy Scouts know that they are always welcome there.

“We put the sign up after hearing that a couple of churches in the metro-Atlanta area had asked their Boy Scout troops to leave after the ruling by the national organization allowing gay young men and boys to join the scouts,” said Senior Minister Rev. Stephanie Seigh. “We wanted the scouts to know that we were a spiritual community that would welcome them.”
