As a married couple of 12 years, you quickly learn that you need new things to talk about and new experiences. Making time for date night isn’t always an easy task, but once you realize you make time for things that are important, you understand that your marriage should be at the top of that list. Date night doesn’t have to be expensive, it doesn’t have to be romantic, but it should be memorable.
My husband and I have three rules for date night.
Rules for date night:
- Talking about the kids is not allowed on date night.
- You are not allowed to go somewhere that other kids are allowed.
- The date must be new and engaging.
It’s a Tuesday evening, so that means it’s date night. Guys, my husband truly set a high bar this time. We went to Remedy Brewing Company for beer, or so I assumed. Quickly I figured out that we were about to have a fascinating night learning about Forensic Pathology while drinking beer.
According to Wikipedia: “Forensic pathology is [a] pathology that focuses on determining the cause of death by examining a corpse.”
This event was made possible by the Sioux Falls Science Pub and the presenter for this event was Kenneth Snell, MD. Who’s also the local medical examiner. This fellow was a fantastic presenter with a particular love for the word caveat. He also wears fantastic ties, just check out his photo. We learned about gunshot wounds, rigor mortis, figuring out the time of death and the causes of death.
Did I mention that this was a slideshow presentation? One of the slides included a man who had been dead inside his home for about three years. Not one person puked to my knowledge which is pretty impressive considering the copious beer consumption.
Date night was a blast. We laughed, we gagged, we learned things that I’ll never be able to forget, and I think date night a success. I’m not sure what could top this odd date night. I mean, where do you go after forensic pathology?
Whoever said that romance was dead never went to a bar on a date night to learn about the dead.
