It’s not butterflies, it’s how you handle the hard stuff.
Let’s talk about LOVE.
Not the love you see on TV or in glossy magazine pages. Not the love wrapped in perfect selfies or scripted text messages. I’m talking about the kind of love that’s raw, real, and quietly profound.
In this world where everyone seems to chase an illusion of love, I often wonder: do we even know what love truly means?
They throw around the word “LOVE” without truly understanding its depth. I’m not a love guru, but I do observe and reflect deeply, and I’m sharing some thoughts from my quiet musings.
Honeymoon Phase.
We confuse it with attraction, with the desire to belong, or the fear of being alone. We mistake love for the honeymoon phase — those early days when everything feels perfect, effortless. But perfection, my dear, is an illusion.
As the days turn into weeks, and weeks into months, the real journey begins. You start seeing each other’s struggles, fears, and insecurities. You witness the late-night worries, the hard mornings, the unspoken pain. And suddenly, the shimmering magic of the honeymoon fades. Here’s the real question: Do you still feel love for them now?
If your feelings fade as reality sets in, was it ever love to begin with?
If you start ghosting them, stop showing up, and say, “I don’t have time,” the truth is — it’s not time that’s lacking, it’s love. When you truly love someone, you make time. You check in, you care, you want to know how their heart is doing. Love isn’t an obligation; it’s a choice — a privilege.
Real love remains.
It embraces imperfection. It says,“I see you — all of you — and I still choose you.” Love doesn’t control or demand. It doesn’t clip wings or dim lights. Instead, it supports growth — individually and together. Love watches you bloom and smiles because it played a part in that blooming. It’s standing beside each other, hand in hand, not dragging or pushing, but walking together.
Love is communication — not silence.
Love is problem-solving — not avoidance.
Love is being there — every day, in little ways that say, “You matter to me.”
Ask Yourself.
Can you be your true, unmasked self with this person?
Can you laugh without restraint, cry without shame, and share your fears without judgment? And do they offer you the same freedom?
If yes, that’s love.
If not, that’s not love — it’s something else. Maybe attraction, maybe convenience, but not love.
When Love Feels One-Sided.
I hear people say, “I just don’t feel the connection anymore.”
And I wonder — did they ever truly love?
Because love is a choice. It’s waking up every morning and choosing them. Choosing to stay, to fight, to nurture.
But I also know it’s painful when love is one-sided. When you’re giving your heart, and they’re giving their indifference. If that’s you, remember: the right person won’t make you feel like you’re too much or not enough.
So, be patient. Wait for the one who will meet you halfway. Who will choose you every day. Don’t trade your peace for temporary companionship. Don’t sacrifice your soul for fleeting attention.
Yes, letting go is hard, but staying where love doesn’t live is even harder.
Don’t Lose Yourself in Love.
Your person should never make you forget who you are. Instead, they should remind you of your strength, your beauty, your worth. They should be the mirror reflecting your light back to you.
So, how do we find this kind of love?
- First, get to know yourself.
- Set boundaries that protect your soul.
- When you meet someone, watch how they handle life’s storms. Notice how you feel around them. Are you calm? Safe? Seen?
Love isn’t about the butterflies — it’s about the quiet moments, the hard conversations, the unwavering support. It’s about struggling together, growing together, and walking life’s messy path hand in hand.
Because, my dear, in love — it’s not about never hitting the rocks. It’s about choosing to climb those rocks together.
