Senate kills bill that would help veterans–tries to add Iran sanction to make it pass.
—
I’ve been back from Iraq for a few years now, and out of the two hundred men and women in my unit, since being home, dozens of them have been through divorces, dozens more have been diagnosed with PTSD and TBI, dozens more have been through drug and alcohol clinics, and we’ve lost two to suicide. The numbers for veteran statistics have been mentioned ad nauseam, 22 veteran suicides a day, 1/4 with PTSD, etc, but the numbers are meaningless when steps aren’t taken to combat the issues. A bill was submitted to the Senate that would help provide assistance to veterans; however, it was shot down! Several Senators claimed that the bill would only pass–a veteran’s bill–if it included a provision about Iran sanctions, claiming that sanctioning Iran would help our veterans. It’s ridiculous and sadly-laughable, which makes it perfect for Jon Stewart’s skewering.
Remember this next time you hear Senators claiming they support our veterans!

Military personnel and vets vote Republican even if Republicans screw up the military and screw over veterans, because there’s this deep article… Read more »
