You who grew up under a strict code of spiritual and moral indoctrination, only to grow up feeling the need to hide your True Self, because who you REALLY are isn’t that “great.”
You who grew up singing songs and memorizing stories that now, as an adult, just don’t hold the same weight they used to.
You who were taught that if you just believed the “right” things and prayed the “right” prayers that you would somehow be protected from real life, only to find yourself on the backside of tragedy after tragedy, hurdle after hurdle, and consistent pain.
You who don’t know what you believe, but so desperate to believe in something……
Desperate to find purpose.
Desperate to find peace.
Desperate to find yourself.
Desperate to find your soul.
I get it.
This has been my own journey after 12 years in full-time occupational ministry.
Sometimes, you just need to wander…. and that’s ok.
You are ok.
You are going to be ok.
If I’ve learned anything about God over the past few years, it’s that He is big enough for our wandering,
our doubt,
our questions,
our frustrations,
our misconceptions,
our labels and names and boxes and misguided exclusiveness,
and our pain.
And when you can come to the place you’ve been searching for, you’ll find it was in you all along…
He was always there.
And you had permission to find yourself, your voice, and your soul this entire time.
So wander on, friend.
Wander well.
Wander honestly.
Wander objectively.
Stay open to Truth.
When you find the Truth, hold it with an open hand and not a closed fist.
Sometimes, you have to lose your faith to find it…
And I’m learning more and more daily that the powerful surrender of needing to be in CONTROL and the OPENNESS to the MYSTERY of it all…….
That’s the gift.
It’s bigger than us.
Yet, it is Us.
