The miraculous moment of a child’s discovery is caught perfectly in this little video.
—-
I’m a father. As such, this perfect little video resonates deeply with me every time I watch it. A child dashes in and out of the rain, returning to us to share her discovery of it. It’s that magical moment of a child’s shared discovery every parent recognizes.
Any of us who raise kids have seen this moment many many times. The world irises down. The miracle of sight, sound and touch is made clear to us all over again. It’s the moment when we discover the simplest of perceptions anew through the eyes of our kids. And it can be a delicious shock unlike any other.
What also makes this video magical are the voices and people behind the camera. They are family. We know this intuitively by watching this child. |
What also makes this video magical are the voices and people behind the camera. They are family. We know this intuitively by watching this child. They are the people that she trusts. They are the people she returns to with her amazement, looping back and back again to say, “See this? See this?“.
It reminds me of the trust my own sweet son places in me. And I am reminded to stay open to it. To not get caught up in the schedule and the homework and the dishes. Because if we’re not careful, we can kill that urge to share.
No matter how old he gets. No matter where he goes, I’ll be right there with him when he brings something amazing back to me. Because that’s what children do. They bring us discovery and passion and joy. They bring us tomorrow.
Wow.

This is WoNDERFUL! Thank you for sharing. It immediately reminded me of when my first born son, just toddling around like Kayden was, discovered his first tree in our backyard in early spring. We didn’t have video then (he is now 35 years) but his movements and expressions of love and excitement moved me to sit at his nap time and write it down as a story/prayer for him some day. Children are so very precious and remind us of how quickly we have come to take such simple things yet important things in life for granted. Engage and ENJOY… Read more »
She is darling! Reminds me of the first time my daughter saw a cat, she had never seen one while in the orphanage in China. She screamed at first, and then loved him!
name of the song in the background pls ? 😐
Wonderful moment captured so perfectly.. can someone tell me the name of the song in background??
Mark, I think this is perfect. It’s a joint moment of discovery. Magical. Forever.
After watching this video and reading the text afterwards, I literally cried. Thank you!
What a wonderful, wonderful moment. This video made my day. Thank you for sharing.
I love how she runs out into the rain and then runs back to home base and then runs out into the rain again. She does this over and over again. It is the hallmark of the toddler – wanting to be autonomous but still needing a solid home base to launch from. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this. As a grandmother, I am noticing these special times with my grandchildren much more than I ever did with my own children. Parents, slow down and notice. This is a wonderful, magical time in your life.
Too bad she does not remember this feeling when she will be able to understand things. :/
I would die to have this experience now 🙂
i think the background music is too loud horrible and ruins the video !!!
I agree totally. I’d rather hear the rain falling and the child squealing with delight and the adults’ laughter and comments to her.
Great video, but when they panned to family where the camera person already shooting recorded someone shooting with their iphone gold. blah….sometimes I think recording the moment, ruins the moment.
This video is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. It made my day.
The song soundtrack over the original beauty was agony!
Complete conflict when played simultaneously.
Is there any place online to experience just the original sound?
Please try it.
Very nice, very cute. But I would have held her hand to makes sure she wouldn’t slip.
I was a little scared for her.
Beautiful. She knows how to dance in the rain. (as I’m deaf the music doesn’t bother me).
That is going to be one sick kid. Also who lets their dog run around the neighborhood without a leash?
the Goodness of this moment was so very Delicious …….!!!!!
So inspiring.
She is not discovering anything.
She is telling us where she has come from.
She has come from behind the rain and sky.
She touches her origins and feels it and then she gets excited and runs back.
But she can not explain that origin, she can just feel it.
omg… so sweet 🙂
Love it..
Agreed, strip the song and this would be better. BTW, has this little girl never been in a shower? Pretty similar.
Exactly. I was expecting just the pure video, and then there’s this uber-dou-hu-hu-houce trying desperately to sound like Nick Drake. Blech. I can just see his smug”Yeah, chicks dig it when I sing like this” expression on his trust fund face. $100 bucks says he wears a vest with no shirt and some type of hat- oh and a scarf, can’t forget the scarf. The video is great though.
oh there is hope left in the world…
I was thinking the same thing last week when I fell in love with my niece. I’ve loved her of course since the day she was born and always will … but this was different. I fell in love with her light and her joy and her innocence and something inside of me vowed on a soul level to always watch and care for this aspect of this precious one…. it’ssoo hard to put into words this feeling it sounds so ordinary and if it is I guess I am super grateful to have had this extraordinary ordinary experience. 2:10 “Look, your dinner is coming!”
Now that’s funny. I was expecting to see a pizza delivery guy.
Don’t ruin a wonderful video with your racism.
Really? All you got out of that amazing video was the inspiration to post a horrible racist comment? News flash: racism is not funny.
