Note — I am writing this for a specific person but I am not sure whether she is going to read this ever.
Not necessarily lost in directions — though that’s fine too, I will pretend to know the maps and street names just for you — but mostly call me when you’re lost in yourself. Lost in the kind of silence that feels louder than a city street. Lost in thoughts you can’t quite untangle, like a charging cable kept too long in your bag.
Call me when the world becomes too heavy and your heart too full, when the sky feels grey even though everyone says it’s blue. Call me when you find yourself wandering back through memories you’ve already lived too many times.
We won’t have to say much. We can sit together on opposite ends of the call or at a table in our favorite cafe listening to the sound of our breathing until we find your way back. Silence can be a map sometimes — comforting, patient, quietly guiding you home without rushing you along. It’s okay, I have gotten good at waiting. Sometimes it feels like that’s the one thing I am truly good at.
See, I know a thing or two about being lost — about searching for familiar places in unfamiliar hearts. About finding warmth in coffee cups and kindness in strangers. I have learned that everyone gets lost, at least once in a while, sometimes on purpose, and sometimes by mistake. And I have learned that the getting lost part isn’t the problem; it’s forgetting that someone might still be waiting to find you.
So, call me if you get lost. Or even if you are not sure yet that you are lost. Call me if you find yourself counting stars on sleepless nights or tracing paths in memories of people who left without giving reasons. Call me if your heart feels like a room full of unopened boxes, filled with stories you are not ready to tell yet.
I promise not to rush you.
I promise not to ask too many questions.
I promise I will listen, even if you say nothing at all.
Call me, because sometimes getting lost is just life’s gentle way of showing us that we don’t have to walk alone.
Call me, because maybe I’m a little lost too.
And perhaps, together, we can find our way back.
