Beginnings Are Just That

The very things we do not wish to look at
Are the very things that can lead us to freedom
Our fears, our victimhood, our disadvantages
Our “right” to what we lost
But if you focus so much on your past
Then there you will continue to live!
Forfeiting where you have grown to
This present moment with this better learned person
But who only sees who they used to be
It is okay to look at yourself in the Only Now
We don’t want to see how irrelevant our beginnings are
We want comfort, stability, and roots
And while these things are positive in the present
To demand they tie to a specific time
Is to have part of yourself never grow beyond
Moving on is not a rejection
Growth is not at a person or place’s expense
You can still have affection for the former things
But they no longer need to define the present
You are grown now
You have lived
You have matured
You have forged a life
That has made your gifts more specific
And your dreams increasingly of your own heart’s
Be kind
Be respectful
Be ever grateful
But not just to where you came from
But also to where you are now.
You’ve got this!
