There are citizens in this nation who, today, are celebrating the passing of the recent Tax Bill, with champagne corks popping, the clink of glasses, and cries of “I’m richer!” All of which begs the question, is “richer” truly better? Have we truly succumbed to merely chasing and embracing every last dollar we can put our grubby hands on? Can we see all the ways that such a stance is a dead-end for all of us?
When the “haves” grow fewer and fewer in number and continue to hinder (or worse) our children, our seniors, our veterans, and everyone on the lower rungs of the middle class, I have to ask them: Are you richer, or are you so infected with the sickness of Fear, and its children, Greed, Hatred, Envy, and Utter Void of Compassion, that you truly believe that a few dollars put into your already-overflowing pocket make this bill worth the lives it will cost?
It has been 300-ish years since our nation last had an actual king, and we came together to throw off that yoke of tyranny and absolutism. May we remember. May we rise together, to do so, once again.
