Upcoming Content for World of Warcraft
Right now, we are in the final month of Dragonflight, with beta testing for The War Within already underway. The pre-patch went live on July 23, and The Radiant Echoes pre-patch event was released on July 30.
The War Within Expansion
The War Within is slated for release on August 26, with Early Access starting on August 22. This expansion will take players into the underground world of Khaz Algar, where the Harbinger Xal’atath has struck a deal with the nerubian empire, helping them assemble an army to enact her plans to conquer the world-soul of Azeroth.
In the pre-patch stage, players can test new systems and features of the upcoming expansion. These include UI improvements, over 400 mounts available for Skyriding, and a new Warbands progression system. The expansion’s launch will bring even more anticipated content: a brand-new campaign, ten more levels to climb, four new playable zones, the Hero Talents system, Earthen Allied Race, the Delves endgame activity, and eight new dungeons to explore.
On September 10, the first season of the expansion will officially begin, bringing new seasons for PvP and Mythic+, as well as access to the first raid called Nerub’ar Palace, which will feature eight bosses and will be set in Azj-Kahet. Also, a special event is planned for the autumn to celebrate the game’s 20th anniversary.
The Worldsoul Saga
At last year’s BlizzCon, fans were treated to not just one, but three major expansion announcements. The upcoming The War Within will be the first in the Worldsoul Saga trilogy — an epic narrative arc designed as the culmination of 20 years of Warcraft history and the foundation for the decades of adventures to come. This trilogy will delve deeper into the lore of the Titans and Azeroth’s world-soul, as well as the eternal conflict between the Light and the Void.
While The War Within takes us into the subterranean Khaz Algar, the next part of the saga, Midnight, will send players to the kingdom of Quel’Thalas to face off against the forces of the Void. The final chapter, The Last Titan, will take us back to the old world where the Pantheon returns to Azeroth, leading players to uncover ancient mysteries rooted deep in the history of the world.
Upcoming Content for World of Warcraft Classic
WoW Classic might not boast the extensive, far-reaching plans of its modern counterpart, but it still has some exciting content drops lined up that look quite promising. Let’s take a look at what’s on the roadmap for the near future.
Cataclysm Classic
We are currently in the Cataclysm Classic era, a reimagined version of the original expansion released in late May 2024. Its second phase, Rise of the Zandalari, dropped on July 30th, introducing two new instances — Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman — transformed from their iconic raid versions into five-man dungeons.
The third phase, Rage of the Firelands, is set to go live in October 2024 and promises to be quite rich in content, featuring the legendary Firelands raid, a new faction, and a new questing zone. The final chapter of Cataclysm, Hour of Twilight, will launch in January 2025, culminating in the epic showdown against Deathwing the Destroyer.
Next in line should be Mists of Pandaria Classic, but Blizzard has yet to release any information regarding its launch, leaving us to speculate about what might come next.
Season of Discovery
SoD’s Phase 4 kicked off in early July 2024, bringing a ton of new content for us to dive into. The level cap has been raised to 60, players can finally get their epic mounts, and we’ve received reworked versions of the Molten Core and Onyxia’s Lair raids. There are also World Bosses with fresh loot, a new World Buff, new runes, battlegrounds, recipes, and many other additions, including a significant dungeon update with a bunch of new instances and even a new dungeon currency that you can now spend on top-tier rewards.
With all this content on the plate, players will have plenty to keep them busy until the fall, when Phase 5 of the Season of Discovery is set to be released. According to Blizzard’s official roadmap, this phase will bring endgame content updates, but more detailed information hasn’t been revealed yet. As usual, closer to the launch date, more announcements will likely trickle out, so stay tuned!
