The healthcare industry thrives at the intersection of institutional knowledge and technological innovation, where the accumulated knowledge and data of physicians and researchers are leveraged through new tools, medications, and care strategies. As modern medicine advances, and the collective knowledge of diseases and their treatments grows more robust, technology needs to continuously evolve to meet their needs, and policy must also follow suit. Shaping and encouraging those developments has been a driving focus in William McClure’s career, and forms the backbone of his emerging legacy of innovation.
William “Bill” McClure is an entrepreneur, healthcare executive, and international public servant who has been a leading healthcare innovator and leader for over twenty years. His experience in healthcare administration, healthcare information technology, insurance, and business operations have helped him build and lead multiple successful companies, while simultaneously championing improved efficiency initiatives across the broader healthcare ecosystem. With several successful companies and exits under his belt, McClure’s expertise as a healthcare entrepreneur is proven, and he invests the wisdom gained from that time into solving complex healthcare challenges.
Bill McClure considers innovation and visionary leadership to be his greatest contributions to the healthcare sector, and continues to contribute to this day. Throughout more than 20 years in healthcare technology, he has repeatedly challenged conventional thinking and built multiple successful companies. He believes his company, Health & Benefit Logistics Group, has the potential to fundamentally transform healthcare delivery in America through integrated technology and greater operational efficiency—a transformation that is both broadly desired and truly needed.
Tackling The Healthcare Sector’s Swamp
One of the most common complaints about most modern healthcare systems is that wading through the bureaucracy and administrative swamp is inefficient for everyone involved—but that is a problem that can be solved. Currently, McClure is working as the Founder and Executive Chairman of Health Logistics Group (HLG), a role in which he oversees a portfolio of healthcare-focused companies working toward a common goal of streamlining clinical operations, insurance administration, payment processing, and healthcare technology. His goal is to create a modern, fully-connected, real-time healthcare system that enables seamless communication between providers, patients, and especially insurance companies, all while improving transparency and reducing administrative bloat.
“The protection from catastrophic loss (Insurance), particularly with one’s health, should be of greatest importance to all humans,” McClure said on LinkedIn. “Reducing the friction in healthcare and insurance in the Americas and beyond, making insurance affordable for all.”
His vision is a transparent system capable of processing and settling healthcare claims within seconds, eliminating billing confusion and improving the patient experience. McClure’s primary personal effort toward this goal is embodied by his company, Health Logistics Group, which comprises a portfolio of eight companies involved in MedTech, FinTech, and InsurTech industries. As a connected whole, HLG represents a nascent form of McClure’s goal of a connected, streamlined, and efficient healthcare platform built from the ground up to fulfill that purpose. HLG is a combined healthcare, insurance, payments, and benefits platform that takes every step of these processes and weaves them together into a coherent system of brokers, employers, providers, TPAs, carriers, and investors.
“The future of healthcare lies in our ability to innovate and integrate technology into every aspect of delivery,” McClure explains. “Integrating technology in healthcare requires a visionary approach and relentless dedication. Creating a seamless healthcare ecosystem will redefine how care is delivered and received.”
William McClure’s efforts have garnered international attention over the years, demonstrating the universal appeal of his healthcare-focused work. Most recently, he was invited to speak on emerging technologies in healthcare at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he’d be speaking to leaders from more than 37 countries. At this gathering of forward-thinking leaders, McClure showcased a number of innovations that could improve healthcare efficiency around the world. The integrated solutions he’s developed through HLG and past companies span clinics, claims processing, insurance, payments, and practice management, and McClure believes those solutions would be useful anywhere, but especially so in countries where patients struggle with long wait times and limited access to care.
“Innovation in healthcare is not just about technology; it’s about creating efficiencies that save lives and improve access,” he says. “When we invest in the health of our communities, we invest in the future of our world. Efficiency in healthcare is not a goal; it’s a necessity for improving patient care.”
Public Service And Bridge-Building
Outside of his direct efforts in the healthcare sector, Bill McClure remains dedicated to public service. As a two-time gubernatorial appointee and former elected St. Johns County Commissioner, he represented 350,000 residents while overseeing a budget exceeding $1 billion. In that time, he championed fiscal responsibility via initiatives that reduced county debt, lowered taxes, expanded infrastructure investment, strengthened public safety funding, and encouraged sustainable economic growth. Outside of political appointments, McClure’s servant leadership continues through a number of nonprofit organizations, including Rotary International, where he served as Club President. Through Rotary, he’s supported projects from local food assistance, to scholarships, to international humanitarian aid projects like providing clean water to communities in need. More than any single lesson or experience, Rotary’s guiding principle of ‘Service Above Self’ is a constant in his activities both inside and outside the work office.
“The strength of a community is built on the generosity and service of its leaders,” he says. “Service above self is a principle that should guide every leader’s actions. Every leader should strive to leave a mark of positive change that endures long after their tenure.”
William McClure’s business experiences and his work with Rotary International have strengthened his belief that business success creates opportunities to make a larger impact on society—that is, through business, philanthropy and public service can thrive. Rather than making a series of one-time charitable donations, McClure prefers sustainable, long-term initiatives like scholarship endowments that continue to help future generations. His experiences also highlight that leadership happens at every level of service, and so every level should be taken seriously and treated with care. At the end of the day, his focus is on doing the right thing, maintaining strong ethical standards, and building a legacy based on honesty, responsibility, and service.
