I have ranted and raged at the injustices of today,
To no avail, racism is seemingly here to stay.
It is out of my control whether you love everyone or you don’t,
But trust me when I say, I will continue to post.
I believe repetition is key and my voice will be heard,
Even if at first you think my words are absurd.
I am an extremist of equal love, of equal support.
I want everybody to have a fair trial in court.
Call me left-wing, call me a communist,
I choose my own labels, I am a humanist.
I am a person, with a mixed nationality,
But most of all I am my mind, and I will use it wisely.
I’m here to exclaim “Black Lives Matter!”
And the echo will interrupt your mindless chatter.
I will use my education, my thoughts and my voice,
To teach you that George Floyd symbolises lack of freedom and choice.
The labels of his past will not compensate the way he died,
We cannot desensitise torture, we cannot ignore how he cried.
The tears that have fallen down your face matter too,
But nobody claimed they didn’t, or else you’d be dead too.
So, give your life some meaning, serve this world,
By warming someone’s heart when they’re feeling cold.
Right now, the world needs you to be nice,
And all I ask is a little co-operation, please take my advice.
When someone yells “Black Lives Matter” next,
Understand they’re coming from a place of care and respect.
If you too care for humanity, love, and justice,
Treat with care and respect everybody amongst us.
