Why are rehabilitation programs necessary within the prison system?
–––
First the word “rehabilitation” has been crucified and demonized by politicians and the prison system and is now as ugly as the word “n*gger”. Programs of change, like in Sweden, Canada, France or England, are needed in any prison system.
Programs that are not based on money to line the pockets of politicians, lawyers, judges, and prison creators and maintainers.
We need real drug, education, trade, and mental health programs administered not by politicians and prison officials, but by proven outside organizations.
Only the self reform programs work.
Could your character have changed if you didn’t have access to rehabilitation programs?
Before the word rehabilitation was demonized, there were some true pockets of self-rehab and real-media. Performers were allowed into prison to interact with prisoners who had chosen to change.
Life is a state of change and growth for me.
I was on my journey and myth in life and chose available programs that enhanced and enriched my journey.
Some of my self-education came through the philosophical and psychological, the life spiritual classes and groups, I found. In time they led me to art, poetry, prose, acting, and music.
I had to choose to and be better for my own sake, and for life’s sake.
I had to awaken to my inner Spoon.
My inner life is connected to the world—Mother Earth collectively and individually.
One must explore, get to know and know thyself. It is a must for self reform.
Philosophy, nature, art, and silence are my self-rehabilitation.
Asleep all, or most of my life as a youth,
philosophy, nature, art, and silence awakened me.
