When I first heard “Zombie” by The Cranberries, I sought to learn more.
I wanted to understand what the Irish were going through. I didn’t just angrily admonish Irish people to bend the knee to the crown. I wanted to understand their tears. Because they are my human brothers and sisters.
Also, my effort to understand their tears and right to independence doesn’t mean I had to endorse the every move of the IRA and hate all British people.
Why can’t some of you do that for me? I am your brother. My family, all shades of brown and beige, are your brothers and sisters.
Why can’t you listen to us like I listened to Dolores O’Riordan?
