At a recent fundraiser, Hillary Clinton spoke about Donald Trump’s supporters that she calls a #BasketOfDeplorables. These are men and women who are openly racist, sexist, anti-LGBTQ and more.
Peter Daou of Blue Nation Review was quick to point out what she means.

DEPLORABLE = ‘Deserving strong condemnation.’ Can’t think of a better word for some of the poison at #Trump rallies.#BasketOfDeplorables

To see more evidence of the deplorable behavior taking place at Trump rallies across the nation, take a look at Jared Yates Sexton’s tweets from within the crowd at Donald Trump’s rally in Charlotte, North Carolina on August 18th. This was Trump’s first rally since his staff shakeup which put Stephen Bannon of Breitbart in charge. Sexton’s powerful reporting should give pause to anyone who thinks Trump’s campaign is simply another exercise in conservative Republican politics.
For those who want more visual proof, we have included The New York Times video from within earlier Trump rallies that verifies the level of angry rhetoric Sexton is reporting. It’s posted right below his tweets.
What will get less attention is the full content of Hillary’s comments. Clinton believes half of Trump’s supporters are part of a huge population that has been “left behind” in the current economic recovery. The frustration and rage of Trump’s supporters is, in part, a direct by product of economic shock and awe. A manifestation of the Wall Street driven real estate collapse, the oil and gas industry collapse and more. These huge economic events require a coordinated intervention by government at all levels. The kind of coordinated response our partisan gridlocked Congress has failed to provide. The warning to Democrats, Republicans and everyone else? If we don’t address America’s very real underemployment issues, Trump’s angry supporters will continue to divide us long after he is gone.
Programs like Clinton’s proposed investment in America’s crumbling road, bridges and schools, will create good paying real jobs here in America, as will creating a system wide shift to renewable energy and a smart energy grid. These are investments in America, for Americans. Clinton is ready and able to work for real solutions, as she has the entirety of her political career, which is in stark contrast to Trump who only knows how to incite and polarize.

For those who might be seeking confirmation of Sexton’s observations, the New York Times has published video confirming what Sexton and others have reported.

Republicans have worked so hard for over 50 years to get here, now they want to deny it? Republican’s started cynically recruiting those too ignorant to overcome intolerance in the ’60’s to win the old Confederacy after the Civil and Voter Rights Acts adoption. Now the nations ignorant intolerant from every State have not only found refuge in the Republican Party but this year became the Republican majority and elected their, not the establishment’s Presidential candidate Donald Trump. The result as we have seen is ugliness, ignorance, xenophobia, and intolerance. Not only is Trump and his insecure message of fear,… Read more »
Well said J Russ!
You really think it’s on the way down? Because the level of ignorance and insanity that has come out of the wood work seems to be at an all time high. I just can’t wrap my head around how any human being can support Trump. Even disregarding His prejudices and intolerance here for sake of argument. His actual comments on actual issues are flat out stupid and covered in self-praise, empty platitudes and false promises.
