Black Friday got a little more colorful at Macy’s.

During the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the cast of Kinky Boots performed medley of songs from the Tony-award winning musical. Most of the performers were in drag, others were in men’s clothing and the namesake footwear.
The reaction was swift and, for the most part, angry. Social media lit up with comments of “gross”, “sick”, “inappropriate”, “disgusting”, “what do I tell my children”…and those were the nicer ones.
So what did the cast of Kinky Boots do? Certainly not cower on their stilettos. They took to the news, social media, and Macy’s Department Store.
Macy’s welcomed them. The press shared their story. And they survived the Black Friday melee. Boots intact.
