Right Side Up or Upside Down?
Of the certainties I have in life, one is that in practice, nothing is absolutely precise. No matter how methodical we may be, the universe is much stronger than our predictable organization.
There’s no point in having an agenda, planning, goals, logistics. Sometimes life seems to have been put in a cocktail shaker, a blender, a concrete mixer, a roulette wheel. Everything gets mixed up, we’re turned upside down. We start riding without reins, walking in the dark, on autopilot. And of course, this scares us, especially those who like to believe they have control over everything. Nonsense.
The force of the universe, the will of God, is much more powerful than any schedule. What was close yesterday, today seems so distant. What was miles and miles away, now seems so real.
Clarice Lispector once said that she observes the changing seasons in herself, and that she clearly changes with them. Ana Jácomo went a little further when she described that: “There’s nowhere to run. Changes, when they need to happen, know how to find us.”
I’ve never been against change. But I confess I’ve always been afraid of being negatively surprised. It may even be contradictory. A crooked picture on the wall bothers me. An arrangement, off-center on the table, in the same way. The chairs, not pushed in, likewise. But at this stage in life, I find an explanation in the words of Marla de Queiroz: “I’m thirsty for change, but I don’t want to drag the furniture around or straighten the pictures. I want to vacate my habits.”
Today, I’ve learned that life needs to shake us up to wake us up, to make us seek our evolution. Getting out of our comfort zone, out of our routine, is to evolve, it’s learning. It’s like being surprised with a bucket of cold water. At first, it takes your breath away. Then, it wakes us up, awakens us, invigorates us.
And when the world changes, when we change too, that’s when the axes align for us to become centered. And, from then on, magically, good things start to happen. What was just a dream, gets closer and closer to becoming a reality.
