A good man: City manager Dan O’Leary of Keller, Texas downsizes himself instead of firing his assistant managers.
The Huffington Post reports the story of a Texas city manager, who, in an effort to save the jobs of his employees, downsized himself and stepped away from the job.
According to NBC Dallas-Ft. Worth affiliate:
“It’s a little unusual for a city of our size to have three city managers,” O’Leary said after the council meeting, referring to assistant city managers Steve Polasek and Chris Fuller, according to the Star-Telegram. “There was a time that was needed, but at this point in time, I don’t think we need three city managers.”
Apparently O’Leary is looking for another job in another city… I can’t imagine he’ll have to look too hard.
He looks like he could retire comfortably…why bother working? That was an honorable thing he did. If people lose jobs, I think people at the top don’t have to adjust their lifestyle so dramatically as those below them; most at the top have had long careers and already established families and savings…they won’t have to struggle as much.
Thats really encouraging.
