It's been a rough few years in genre-related TV for actor Chi McBride. He was a cast member on ABC's The Nine, which didn't last long on the Disney-fueled network. Then he was cast as private detective Emerson Cod in the brilliant Bryan Fuller-minded Pushing Daisies which likewise got cut by the alphabet network. Switching over to Fox, he seemed to click well with Mark Valley and Jackie Earle Haley as ex-cop Winston in the comic-book minded Human Target … and, well …
Human Target was finally axed after undergoing a few trips back to the drawing board. Though the show was considerably revamped for this season, the actioner struggled to gain ground in the ratings. Target averaged 7.6 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in adults 18-49 this season, including DVR use, but was down from its first season average of 2.9.
The Winston role had the charm of being Emerson Cod with a little less whimsy and humor and a lot more action. It's a shame to see him disappear from the small screen.
