Activist/Rapper Prince Ea Evokes the Power and Eloquence of Martin Luther King.
—
Richard Williams, better known by his stage name Prince Ea, is an American rapper, music video director and rights activist from St. Louis, Missouri.
With this video, he has put himself alongside MLK and the other great voices of King’s generation. He has the kind of inspirational authority that true leaders have. For his voice to rise at exactly the moment when racism in America is running rampant is nothing short of miraculous.
Prince Ea is an inspirational young man. He’s going to change the world. Have a look.
Uhm, this is spoken word, and no shade on him, but there are many poets far more moving (he’s a much better rapper). And to compare him to MLK? There are a lot of rappers int the conscious hip-hop subgenre that have done far more and still don’t stand up to MLK (common and lupe fiasco spring to mind).
That’s not to say they’re unworthy of praise, but I feel you do all a disservice when you compare them to the voice of a generation. Seems like sensationalism.
The guy just gave us a powerful case for love. How are we supposed to find new voices if we keep elevating the figures of the past to near god-like status? I can’t say for sure, but I suspect that Martin Luther King would be the first to say he was just a man, like any of us.
This man is every bit as visionary and compelling as Martin Luther King. And he speaks to this world, today.
