In fact, even his fellow Republicans got in on the game, from Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), who said last October, “The President has great difficulty with the truth,” to Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who broke with Trump over the repeal of Obamacare. But perhaps no official has proved as much of a thorn in Trump’s golf shirt as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. The former ExxonMobil CEO was once seen as one of Trump’s staunchest allies, and they both have had bromances with Vladimir Putin (the Russian president awarded “compatriot” Tillerson the Order of Friendship when he headed the energy giant). But last year it was revealed that behind closed doors, Tillerson called the President a “moron” and has made no secret of the fact that he dislikes his blustery approach to office. As a result, Trump supporters have pummeled Tillerson on social media. Tillerson usually bounces back, but he starting the New Year with 71 percent negatives, and much of the discussion around him is critical. Meantime, Corker, whose tune on Trump has changed markedly of late, has been mentioned as a possible successor to Tillerson. –Hugo Guzman
