As a guy friend of mine from High School recently pointed out (as a reaction to another article of mine), some girls are just as bad as guys with phone usage.
Girls tend to do it in a different way. Guys might be hoarding their phones like it’s gold during fantasy football season and they like to play time-consuming games that can take attention away from the quality of their relationships. We ladies are no different.
Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and Twitter are the largest offenders of online fake reality. What I mean by this is that online, people can portray themselves as perfect. There are filters, cropping, and photo shots just to get the right shot for your daily feed. People are building identities and self-worth from likes, comments, and followers.
So guys, how does this matter to you?
When you’re out on a first date and your lady says “hold on, I need to take a selfie”, are you in the photo? When you sit down to eat and she’s filtering that photo and tagging it on a handful of sites, is she tagging you? While shes snapping a quick duckface of herself with all the fancy lighting around and you are waiting desperately for an alcoholic beverage to appear, do you wonder what the hell was I thinking? When a selfie is more important than being present with you.
Run.
This is not a woman, this is a little girl with an identity crisis and an addiction to the internet. This little girl is many different people and you don’t know which one is going to show up. I don’t care how attractive she may be, inside there’s a whole different creature. I picture this creature to be much like an angler fish. The bling and beauty draw you in and when you are mesmerized it strikes.
Fellas you too deserve better conversations on dates, in relationships and in marriages. When duck faces have become more important than you, Run.
