This might sound silly to you, but I had one of those huge unexpected realisations yesterday — from a group of pigeons, of all things.
Don’t you think it’s funny how sometimes birds can teach us lessons words can never teach?
Whenever I need to breathe, I go to our rooftop. You know, just to feed the pigeons, watch the sunset, etc. Amidst the overwhelming noise of the horns, it still let me feel calmer. You can say it’s my “me time”.
I don’t have a ritual or anything, but at twilight, usually I just bring some grain and wait. The pigeons always come. But most of them don’t land right away. They circle. Look around. Hover near the edges like something bad might happen.
All except one.
He’s this plump little guy who doesn’t think twice. The moment I appear, he’s already at my feet, munching away like he owns the sky.
And you know what made me think about this situation? It’s always him. Every day. No hesitation. No scanning the area. No waiting for someone else to make the first move.
The others wait for him to go first. Although a few of them eventually follow, most just maintain a distance and watch. As they let their fear overpower their survival instinct, the brave ones finish the grain almost every day.
To be honest, their fear was louder than logic because I wasn’t even doing anything to scare them.
I watched that happen over and over until I realised — I’ve done that too. I’ve waited too long. I’ve missed things because I was scared of something that might never have happened.
That bird didn’t know if it was safe. He just came anyway.
That was the difference.
Not confidence. Not strength. Just action.
It made me think… how often do we let our hesitation make decisions for us? We distance ourselves from things out of fear that aren’t even trying to hurt us, just like those pigeons.
They were waiting for safety, for someone else to take the risk first, nd maybe, so are you?
So if there’s something right in front of you, something that feels like maybe it could be yours… maybe try?
Even if you’re unsure.
Even if no one else is moving yet.
Even if it feels like too small a moment to matter.
It might matter more than you know now.
Thank you so much for reading ❤️
