I’m from a tropical island, so when I moved to the states … it was an adjustment. Winter was the toughest part of it for me — dark, and cold. How are humans meant to live like this??
I’ve come to a place of acceptance about winter … but in recent years, I want to create something more enjoyable than just acceptance. So I have been exploring ways to create a beautiful winter for myself and my loved ones.
These may be obvious to some of you winter pros … but in hopes of inspiring a few of you, here’s what I’ve come up with lately … what I’m planning on reaching for to make a beautiful winter:
- hot teas, hot chocolate, hot chai
- hot porridge / oats in the morning
- thick, warm socks and cozy blankets
- candles (light candles at meal times, even breakfast)
- reading near the fireplace
- board games and movie nights with the family
- take up slow hobbies (crafts, painting, drawing, knitting, baking)
- create a list of books I want to read
- make a Spotify playlists of relaxing music
- slow yoga, stretching / mobility work
- indoor cycling workouts
- hot tub with the wife
- dress warm for long meditative winter walks
- meditation
- light therapy lamp in the mornings
- sit & meditate on darkness in the evenings
- do connection calls with family and friends
- reflect on the year
- plan an amazing 2025
What would make your winter amazing?
