Conservatives are accusing the social media platform of placing them under a “shadow ban,” preventing others from seeing their posts and content but not letting those banned know. Republican Party Chair Ronna McDaniel and Donald Trump Jr. were among those who stopped appearing in the drop-down boxes for Twitter search results in late July, according to Vice News. Democrats were not similarly affected, Vice went on to report, and although Twitter denied shadow banning anyone, President Trump took up the accusation that the company is discriminating against the Right. “We will look into this discriminatory and illegal practice at once,” Trump threatened on July 26. Ironically, he made this statement on Twitter. Despite denials, social media users both on Twitter and on other platforms hold shadow bans in low regard, with 75 percent of users expressing negative opinions about the practice. –Hugo Guzman
