BulletProof Coffee, does it really work? I mean can putting butter and brain octane oil in your coffee really give you a huge boost in energy? Can it even make you lose weight? I’ll admit I was shocked when I heard of Bulletproof coffee and it’s ingredients. I love coffee, I drink that stuff everyday but putting butter into it?
I couldn’t think of anything worse. However, I was intrigued because after all, projectenergise.com is all about how to get a good start in the morning and getting energy boosts even when you’ve got a busy schedule. So I thought, okay, it’s only a cup of coffee in the morning right? I do that anyway so I may as well put in some extra ingredients and see how it goes. If I’m honest, it actually tastes pretty good, but more on this in my Bulletproof coffee review below…
Bulletproof Coffee Review & What Is It Exactly?
If you haven’t heard of it then you still may be a little shocked by what I described in the above paragraph. Bullet Proof coffee is a mixture of ‘mould free’ coffee beans that have been roasted to the highest of standards meaning they have low amounts of ‘harmful toxins’. I’d never really heard of ‘harmful toxins’ in my coffee before but hey, I guess there are in everything we eat.
Bullet Proof coffee owners tell us to use brain octane oil. A lot of people will use coconut oil but honestly, brain octane oil is super stuff and you’ll only need a teaspoon per coffee. When it comes to butter, you need to use unsalted (sorry) butter that’s been grass fed. That means the animal that contributed to your butter was all natural and ate healthy organic grass etc.
The idea is then to blend this mixture for 30 seconds so it ends up looking like a latte of some kind. I’ll admit – the bulletproof coffee does look a little weird the first time you make it. If you saw it in a coffee shop then you’d likely think it was just another latte. I guess that’s a good thing?!
Who Is Bullet Proof Coffee For?
The Bulletproof coffee mix is designed for people who need more alertness, concentration, a sharpened mind and those who want to lose weight. So it covers a lot of ground but read on in my Bullet Proof coffee review to see if it meets your needs and ticks your boxes.
What Do You Get With Bullet Proof Coffee?
So like I said, people sometimes add coconut oil instead of brain octane oil to their coffee but the guys at Bulletproof do recommend you use the brain obcane oil.
One of the nice things about Bullet Proof is their range of different coffee’s. That’s always impressive because as I said I love coffee as much as anyone and like to try different types as often as possible. Some packet includes dark roast, decaf, French, and a few others. You have the option of getting whole bean or fresh ground coffee which is personally my favorite.
12oz coffee fresh or whole bean is going to set you back by $20, and then you can also purchase brain octane. Coffee speaks for itself, it tastes great but you’ll have to get the brain octane oil separately.
What Is Brain Octane Oil And What Are The Benefits?
Brain Octane is a purified form of medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) derived from 100% pure coconut oil. It’s a product from the Bullet Proof family and is basically a very strong coconut oil that is marketed towards people who want more focus, stamina and energy. It claims that you should start by using one teaspoon per cup of coffee and gradually move up to two after a few days.
I’ve always been aware of coconut oils benefits so reading that brain octane oil was a potent version, I was intrigued to learn more. It looks very much like an oil but a little bit runnier, it tastes good too and not too ‘oily.’
‘Brain octane oil’ is supposed to help with healthy brain function, just like we know healthy oils and fats do. It’s up to you whether you think that this brain octane oil is more potent, but I was willing to give it a shot although I’d never stuck regular coconut oil in my coffee before.
Who Invented Bullet Proof Coffee?
Like most new things and trends, Bullet Proof coffee came from deep in the heart of silicon valley by an entrepreneur named Dave Asprey. It’s the same old story, Dave was obese, tired and lacked motivation. He tried exercising and eating right but nothing gave him the push he needed to feel more alert and less hazy.
One day, he went to Tibet and a local gave him a funky looking tea using yaks butter. Dave says that he was surprised at the buzz it gave him and thought he might be onto something. Turns out it’s a normal thing to put butter into your hot drinks in Tibet, they don’t see it as unhealthy and encourage others to try it.
Dave’s story was interesting to me because more then weight loss, I’m always into finding new ways to curb the ‘brain fog’ and fatigue so many of us face on a daily basis, I’m also up for trying new things too…
Dave then decided he’d try it out in coffee, as like me, he is a coffee lover and thought the obvious – what if mixing it with coffee would make you even more alert? So that’s what happened. Now Dave has expanded on his BulletProof coffee and opened up other ‘Bulletproof’ products after the first ones success.
The thing that I like and interests me about Dave is his personal interest in re-energizing your body and sharpening your mind. If you’ve read my blog before you’ll know that I’ve always suffered from ‘brain fog’ and haziness so I’m always up for reading and trying new products or ideas from someone who fills that need to get better.
Dave Asprey also calls himself a ‘bio-hacker’ which he explains means being able to change the way you feel from the inside out so you have complete control over your overall health. That resonates with me because I truly believe that changing the way you feel from the inside, using baby steps and picking up new tips here and there is the best way to get more energy and simply feel good. So, kudos to Dave there…
What Are The Benefits Of Bullet Proof Coffee?
So, what are the benefits of BulletProof coffee? In this Bulletproof coffee review you won’t hear me go on about the weight loss behind this coffee (although thousands claim that it has helped them lose weight) I’ll break down what I think the main benefits of this coffee are;
- Increased brain function
- Alertness
- No crashing
- Energy
- And weight loss
The reason why I won’t focus too much on the weight loss side is because I didn’t use this coffee personally to lose weight so I can’t advise you on that because I wasn’t tracking any weight loss. Instead what I did find was, I have less brain fog and grogginess.
I totally feel a burst of energy after a cup of Bulletproof coffee and it does last for a few hours before I start to feel slightly tired again, but definitely more awake in the morning than drinking a regular coffee. I’m not sure why but drinking regular whole been or most filtered coffees I generally feel more gassy and bloated. Maybe there really are bad toxins in cheap coffees? Maybe standard roasting can have this effect on your stomach?
I’m not sure, but either way, I’ve felt more comfortable after a cup of Bulletproof coffee and more alert. I must say that after a week of having one or two cups a day (mostly in the morning) I’ve had less brain fog and actually found it easier to concentrate. In this Bulletproof coffee review, I want to share with you how I genuinely feel after having the coffee, however, it’s difficult to say what component is making me feel perkier in the morning.
Is it the butter?
Is it the Bulletproof coffee?
Or is it the brain octane oil?
So you might be thinking, Sean this is an interesting Bulletproof review and all but what;’s with the butter? Do you really need that in your coffee if you use the brain octane oil?
Remember when Omega-3 was all the rage? Well, the butter is added in as an extra brain-boosting ingredient to help things run smoothly in your mind and allow for smooth digestion. There’s no doubt that good fats (the right amount) oil our muscles and organs and allow for things to function like their meant to.
BulletProof Coffee Puts You Into Ketosis Mode
Can Bulletproof coffee help you lose weight? That’s the biggest question people ask. Allegedly, this coffee helps you lose weight by putting your body into a state of ketosis. This is the state your body goes into when it starts burning fat for energy.
When your body’s in ketosis it starts burning fat to use as energy instead of muscle etc, therefore you lose weight. But can having one or two of these coffees a day really help you lose weight by just drinking the coffee itself? I’m a bit sceptical of this…especially when Dave Asprey tells you to not easy breakfast and just drink one of these coffees instead. You always need to keep a balanced diet and I’m not sure you can get away with that by ONLY having a special coffee in the morning…
He claims that by drinking A Bullet Proof coffee in the morning and ditching a breakfast, you’ll stave off cravings for food and snacks throughout the day. I do not agree with this at all as I always feel better and believe that you absolutely need breakfast in the morning. Something solid and edible. This is one of the best ways to get energy in the morning and to make it last a good chunk of the day.
However, from my experience, you should benefit from having a good breakfast and by having a BulletProof coffee in the morning. This is simply because it’s what I do. I’ll still have a meal but I’ll also have Bulletproof coffee for an extra kick.
Bullet Proof coffee claims that it is a breakfast in itself because it doesn’t cause your insulin to spike and then causing you to crash later on…
All I can say is, you try it and see how you feel. You may be fine through ’til lunch, or if you’re like me you will need to eat with it.
