Modern dating moves fast.
Swipe. Match. Spark. Escalate.
For many people, this rhythm feels natural, energizing, even fun.
For others, it feels confusing, overwhelming, or quietly invalidating.
I wrote Dating Beyond Surface: A Self-Help Book for Demisexuality and Sapiosexuality in Modern Romance for those of us who don’t experience attraction on demand, for people who need emotional safety, intellectual resonance, and genuine connection before desire even begins.
This book is now available on Kindle, but its story started long before publication.
The story behind the book: when “nothing was wrong,” but nothing fit
For most of my adult life, I felt like I was constantly misaligned with dating culture.
Not because I lacked options.
Not because I didn’t want a connection.
But because my inner timing never matched the external expectations placed on me.
I didn’t feel attraction early.
I didn’t crave physical intimacy without trust.
I didn’t feel energized by flirting with strangers.
Instead, attraction arrived after emotional closeness.
Desire followed meaning, not mystery.
Connection grew through conversation, shared values, and psychological safety.
And yet, the dominant dating scripts told me, explicitly and implicitly that something was off:
- You’re too slow.
- You’re overthinking.
- Chemistry should be instant.
- If you don’t feel it right away, it’s not real.
Eventually, I realized the problem wasn’t me.
It was the narrow definition of intimacy I had been trying to fit into.
That realization is what became this book.
What this book is really about (and what it’s not)
Dating Beyond Surface is not a guide to winning at dating.
It won’t teach you:
- how to spark instant chemistry,
- how to optimize your dating profile for mass appeal,
- or how to override your nervous system to keep up with dating trends.
Instead, this book asks a different question:
What if dating advice was built for people who love with depth, not speed?
At its core, the book explores:
- Demisexuality as a relational orientation, not a limitation
- Sapiosexuality as a form of attraction rooted in cognition, curiosity, and meaning
- Emotional pacing as a legitimate boundary
- Intellectual intimacy as a foundation, not a bonus
- Non-normative bonds (including queerplatonic connections) are real and valid
- Neurodivergent needs around safety, overstimulation, and trust
Rather than asking readers to change who they are, the book expands the map of what connection can look like.
My expertise: lived, researched, and practiced
This book sits at the intersection of three domains:
- Lived experience
I write as someone who is demisexual and sapiosexual, navigating dating systems that rarely accommodate slower, deeper modes of attraction. - Psychological and relational insight
My background in psychology, spirituality, and human development informs how I frame attachment, boundaries, identity, and emotional safety without pathologizing difference. - Practical application
This is not a purely conceptual book. It includes:
- journaling prompts,
- reflection exercises,
- communication scripts,
- and dating profile templates
All are designed specifically for people who connect emotionally or intellectually before physically.
The goal is not self-improvement.
It’s self-permission.
Who this book is for
This book is for you if you’ve ever felt:
- too slow
- too sensitive
- too complex
- too quiet to be chosen
It’s for people who crave real connection, not just proximity.
For those who want intimacy without erasing themselves.
You’re not broken. You’re deep.
I’m sharing this because I know many people are navigating similar experiences, often alone.
If this resonates, I’d love to hear your thoughts or sit with you in the shared understanding that you are not broken.
You simply love with depth.
And depth isn’t a liability — it’s a superpower 💛
