When polled, many people responded that they voted for Donald Trump at least once because they believed that the United States needed “a businessman” as president who needed to run the government like a business.
As it turned out, they were, indeed, correct that Donald Trump has run the United States government like he ran his businesses.
He is bankrupting the government with his massive tax cuts to the ultrarich, bankrupting small businesses with his tariffs and spiked energy costs due to his unwarranted war in Iran, randomly firing government workers and gutting essential government programs and services, tearing up treaties made by former administrations, inflating the overall cost of living, while also cooking (inflating) the alleged successes of his administration, placing his name on government buildings and other structures in addition to the U.S. currency, as he had bankrupted his companies six times as a private “businessman,” failed to live up to his contractual agreements by stiffing suppliers and workers on his properties, cooked (inflated) his books when applying for loans and when applying to assess the estimated value of his holdings while radically underestimating his income on his tax forms, and chiseling his name on structures he had no part in building.
Donald Trump is the biggest con artist ever to sit / sleep (not serve) in the historic Oval Office. He doesn’t even play the role of “Strongman” very well.
Though he thinks he is omnipotent, and even the second coming, his shambolic taco-ness (Trump always chickens out) changing his mind on a whim, forced and obviously phony machismo, his poorly planned and sparsely attended military march through the streets of Washington, DC, his deluded UFC cage match on the White House lawn to celebrate Flag Day (a.k.a. his 80th birthday), his obvious disdain for military service personnel who do not fulfill his image of someone marching in lock step out of central casting, his dangerous subservience to the likes of Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, Victor Orban, and other fascists around the world, poses great threats to our intelligence agencies and to our national security.
A line in the great 1972 film, “Cabaret,” comes to mind when describing Trump’s strongman appeal, when the character of Brian Roberts, played by Michael York, reduces Sally Bowles’ (Liza Minelli’s) sex appeal over men to that she is “about as fatale as an after-dinner mint.”
But for Trump, since he is perpetually eating something, he never gets to after dinner to eat a mint.
There are, however, roles that Donald Trump as an alleged businessman and President of the United States plays so very well that he deserves the equivalent of multiple Academy Awards, Tony Awards, People’s Choice Awards, Grammy Awards, Country Music Awards, and so many others.
Donald Trump has been multiply nominated and is a multiple winner of the role of Racist, Misogynist, Classist, Ethnocentrist, Transphobe, Homophobe, Ageist, Ableist, White Christian Nationalist, Fascist, Sociopathic Narcissist, Enemy of the People of the World Community, and certainly Con Artist.
He was conning his supporters when he announced that “Only I can fix it.” What is true, though, is that We The People can and will take back and fix our country.
