Watch as four women transform into guys for the first time…and get some surprises long the way.
When we hear the word “drag” (as it relates to people, not cars), most of us probably think of drag queens with all the trimmings…glitter, wigs, heels, attitude. But there’s another group of performers who cross gender lines, sometimes in equally radical and exaggerated ways. They are drag kings, female-identified people* who dress and perform as men. All kinds of men. Burly men, flamboyant men, rock stars, country boys, if there’s a type, someone is on stage with it, pushing limits.
Enter these four women, all of whom are schooled by drag kings and transformed into guys for a one-night-only show.
As they get the facial hair and lose breasts and put on menswear and…fill out their slacks…they talk about how they’re feeling about this. But what’s more interesting than their words is their body language as they, with varying levels on conscious effort, begin to move and act differently while “in drag”.
If gender performance is something we do every day, how much are we exaggerated – or toned down – versions of what is expected of us?
