It didn’t take long for Hillary Clinton’s prescient warning to materialize regarding Donald Trump’s personal attacks on Kamala Harris.
In case you missed it on July 23, Hillary wrote the following in a lengthy New York Times op-ed:
- “The next 15 weeks will be like nothing this country has ever experienced politically…”
- “Harris’s record and character will be distorted and disparaged by a flood of disinformation and the kind of ugly prejudice we’re already hearing from MAGA mouthpieces.”
- “She and the campaign will have to cut through the noise, and all of us as voters must be thoughtful about what we read, believe and share.”
Then, at a rally in North Carolina shortly thereafter, Trump rolled out his campaign playbook of childish insults, demeaning language, lies and half-truths — including continued unproven claims that Democrats “rigged” the 2020 election.
Trump had already called Kamala “dumb as a rock.”
Self-Aggrandizement
Being the ever-present serial narcissist, Trump began the campaign event in Charlotte praising himself and denigrating Harris about the size of their respective campaign crowds.
Trump claimed his crowd sizes were “colossal” and hundreds of times bigger than at Kamala’s events. The former president claimed that he had over 100,000 people at a New Jersey campaign rally and more than 80,000 during an event in South Carolina.
Trump mocked Kamala for allegedly drawing only 1,000 people to her events, saying “Harris could never get our crowds.”
Verbal Assault
Before aiming his fire at Kamala with personal insults, Trump also:
- Chided journalists: “The fake news is talking about lyin’ Kamala as if she’s the savior of our country.”
- Bragged that the crowd in Butler, Pennsylvania, didn’t run when shots rang out during the attempted assassination. He said that “nobody moved, nobody ran” out of their loyalty to him.
- Attributed the shooting to Democrats calling him “a threat to democracy”. Rather, he retorted, “They’re the real threat. They’re a threat to our country, period.”
- Boasted about the Republican National Convention being one big love fest which was “flawless” and “record setting”. He called it “the greatest convention anyone has seen” from Republicans or Democrats.
“Biden doesn’t know he’s alive” due to “cognitive degeneration,” Trump joked, while accusing Democrats of staging a coup to replace Biden as the party’s nominee.
Personal Grenades
Trump then lit into Vice President Harris, asserting: “Kamala would be the most radical far left extremist to occupy the White House. There’s never been a lunatic like this in the White House.”
The former president also launched the following verbal grenades and personal attacks:
- He called Kamala so “radically liberal” that she makes Senator Bernie Sanders look like a moderate.
- He said she is “much worse” than Biden, whom Trump called “the worst president ever.”
- He said Kamala is “unfit to lead” and will “destroy our country” with a “crazy liberal record.”
- Trump said Kamala “couldn’t pass the bar exam…she couldn’t pass anything.”
- Trump said a vote for Kamala is “a vote for incompetence, dishonesty, weakness and failure” — and called her “a threat to democracy.”
- He said she would usher in “a socialist takeover of the healthcare system” by “eliminating private insurance” and “bankrupt Social Security and Medicare” in the process.
- Trump warned that Kamala would “rip firearms out of the people’s hands” and destroy the Second Amendment through mandatory gun confiscation.
- He lambasted her as “a radical crazy person on abortion” claiming she approves “the execution of babies” — in addition to praising the Supreme Court for overturning Roe v. Wade.
- Trump claimed Kamala “launched a colossal illegal alien invasion” and alleged that “hundreds of thousands of terrorists” are entering the USA from “all over the world” because she’s the “border czar.”
- Trump said she is responsible for “our communities being ravaged by migrant crime” from “illegal alien rapists, bloodthirsty killers and child predators” who will “go after our sons and daughters.”
Trump called Kamala “unhinged” and said she will destroy America “just like she destroyed San Francisco.”
Final Thoughts
Meanwhile, President Biden called his vice president a “great leader and “an incredible partner” who is “tough, experienced and capable,” during a prime-time address from the Oval Office explaining his decision to drop out of the race.
In her op-ed, Hillary Clinton likewise extolled Kamala:
- “She represents a fresh start for American politics. She can offer a hopeful, unifying vision. She is talented, experienced and ready to be president.”
- She is “a savvy former prosecutor and successful vice president who embodies our faith that America’s best days are still ahead.”
- “Harris is chronically underestimated, as are so many women in politics, but she is well prepared for this moment.”
- “With Harris at the top of the ticket leading the way, this movement may become an unstoppable wave.”
Moreover, Vice President Harris has won the endorsements and accolades of the Democratic leadership of Congress, governors, mayors, and a whole range of elected officials and others nationwide.
Ultimately, the voters will decide who to believe.
