The first Press Conference for the 2016 Republican National Convention was held yesterday. The fun begins today. The first to address the press was 2016 RNC CEO, Jeff Larson. In his remarks he focused on the magnificence of the podium on which speakers at the Convention will ascend to address the party faithful and the Nation.

Mr. Larson related that Donald Trump was very pleased with the stage that has been set. He said that Mrs. Trump, “loved it even more.” Maybe she thinks she will look good in that light when she kicks off the festivities tonight.
Mr. Larson boasted that the physical platform that the Nation was about to see was the best that existing “infrastructure” could provide. This infrastructure, he said, included a 1700 square foot screen that reflected “what we are trying to project as a Party.” Apparently the Nation is about to see that when it comes to the GOP, they haven’t seen nothing yet. Next up at the press conference was Paul Manafort, Trump Presidential Campaign Manager. Manafort portrayed Trump as a Washington outsider who will rail against the rigged systems of US politics and business. This convention is going to be the first to spotlight the abilities of the Nation’s first populist billionaire.
Wait a minute. Hasn’t the Nation seen this act before? Davey Crocket was not wealthy, but he was known as “King of the Wild Frontier.” Congressman Crocket served in the US House Representatives starting in 1826. When he was last defeated for Congress, he headed East to promote his autobiography. He was killed defending a building called the Alamo, which is located in what is now known as the State of Texas, in 1836. He died a hero.
Mr. Crocket rose to prominence due to his reputation as a great hunter and story teller. A song written about him claims that he killed a bear when he was just 3 years old. There are no known cell phone camera images to document this story.

Whether this will be the year that the big screens of mass media are shattered by the little screens of social media remains to be seen.

The frontier Davy was king of was defined by the borders of land controlled by Native Americans and areas where they had lost control. History provides no record that Native Americans paid for the lumber that went into the construction of the frontier stockades built along these lines.
Mr. Manafort reported that what was the most different about the line up of RNC speakers who would be taking the stage was that the list included a virtual who’s who of Mr. Trump’s family, friends, employees, and people he has done deals with. For most men having such a line up form the foundation of your references would be considered weak. Donald Trump is not most men. Donald Trump may become one of the most legendary figures of our time.
I don’t want to spread a rumor that a hammer wielding, scantily clad woman plans to rush the big screen when Donald Trump’s image appears on it later in the week. I don’t think that one is true.
Whether this will be the year that the big screens of mass media are shattered by the little screens of social media remains to be seen. That eventuality might be more than just a rumor.
