This is where you are right now.
In this space.
In this time.
Doing what you’re doing.
Whatever that is.
You may not be where you used to be. You may not be where you wanted to be. Or where you think you deserve to be.
But in recognizing and accepting where you are, you ground yourself in reality. And you can make decisions from this place. Decisions based on truth.
We don’t always get happy endings. We don’t always get to be with that special someone, not in the way we wanted, anyway.
We don’t always get the job or the life we pictured. But this is what is.
So have a seat and take a deep breath in. And let it out whenever you’re ready.
And pick up the object closest to you, preferably one that has no writing or insignia on it.
Hold that object in your hand and just experience it. Feel the weight of it.
Look at it intently, letting go of all other thought. Notice its color and the way the light catches it. Notice peeling paint or jagged edges.
Notice the temperature. Is it cool or warm?
Don’t judge it. Just notice. And be with whatever this object is.
If the mind wanders, just let the thoughts go and return to examining your object. That’s it. That’s all you have to do.
And it doesn’t matter if you have to call the mind back one hundred times in one minute.
That’s the practice.
And after a time, put your object back where you found it.
And begin again.
