When I say that Donald Trump is a raging megalomaniac, I mean it in both senses of the word (unfortunately for us).
He is both an extremely intense, potent version of a megalomaniac and a vengeful and very aggressive one as well. But what, exactly, IS a ‘megalomaniac’?
The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines megalomania in two ways:
1) “a mania for great or grandiose performance” [note: mania is a form of insanity]
2) “a delusional mental illness that is marked by feelings of personal omnipotence and grandeur.”
So, a megalomaniac is someone who embodies the above characteristics. A megalomaniac is grandiose, delusional, and focused on his own supposed ‘greatness.’ A megalomaniac is an over-the-top egotist who is convinced of his own superiority, omnipotence, and invincibility — and demands fealty and submission.
Sound familiar?
Signs of Trump’s megalomania are mounting — fast
According to the above definition, is Trump a megalomaniac? Absolutely. Check, double-check, and triple-check.
That entire definition might have been written specifically for Donald Trump.
It’s clear now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that Trump is a severe megalomaniac. After just two weeks of his new ‘reign,’ it’s crystal clear that he wants to control, abuse, and manipulate the entire world and all the nations in it. It’s aggressive grandiosity, for sure — and nothing but aggressive grandiosity.
Consider:
- He insists that the U.S. ‘needs’ Greenland, part of the sovereign nation of Denmark — and thinks he has the ‘right’ to take it through any means necessary, including possible military force.
- He says (without evidence) that the U.S. and our shipping companies are being ‘ripped off’ by Panama — so we should take back the Panama Canal by any means necessary.
- He says that Canada should become — and should want to become — the 51st state of the U.S., and he insults Prime Minister Trudeau by calling him Governor Trudeau.
- He’s ‘all in’ on bullying smaller nations like Colombia to take back into their countries all illegal immigrants deported from the U.S. — or else be attacked with harsh, punitive tariffs.
- And now, he’s even levying massive tariffs of 25% on our friendly neighbors Mexico and Canada, who are our largest trading partners along with China — which is being slapped with an across-the-board 10% tariff. Trump thinks he can control and manipulate any other nation and utilize any force he deems ‘necessary’ to get his way.
He is a giant, flaming bully and extreme narcissist rolled into one. Both of these traits get combined in the ‘raging megalomaniac’ we see strutting before us — constantly, horrifically, disgustingly — and behaving badly (very badly) on the world stage.
Greenland and Denmark are furious.
Panama is furious.
Colombia caved to his pressure — and is furious.
Mexico’s president is furious and has vowed economic retaliation.
Canada’s prime minister Trudeau is furious and is arranging ongoing retaliatory tariffs and other economic ‘incentives’ to get Trump to back down.
A Canadian I know said she and many Canadians see these actions as a ‘declaration of war’ by the U.S.
Trump exhibits a vast array of megalomaniacal traits
What does all this signify for the U.S. and the world? Nothing good, that’s for sure.
Remember Trump’s persistent claims that he’d lower grocery prices — the price of eggs in particular — once he became president? Well, his new tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China are sure to drive consumer prices far higher… and this past week the price of eggs surged to a new high around the country due to the bird flu outbreak.
So much for lower prices and Trump’s ‘promises.’
But making false or exaggerated promises is what Trump always does. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
His recent actions and behaviors — as insensitive, mean-spirited, or downright aggressive as they are— are just the latest outward symptoms of Trump’s virulent megalomania.
Yet… they’re not even the worst symptoms.
~ What about his incessant lying and/or creating his own spurious ‘reality’?
~ What about his constant bullying and infantile name-calling?
~ What about his endless boasting and self-aggrandizement?
~ What about inserting himself, uninvited, into the internal affairs of other nations, the European Union, etc.?
~ What about his intense desire for revenge and ‘retribution’ against all his perceived ‘enemies,’ especially in the federal government?
~ What about all his major economic conflicts of interest — more than all other presidents combined — and sleazy schemes to enrich himself and his oligarch pals?
~ What about the thousands of purges, firings, and demotions he’s orchestrating, all with little or NO notice?
These are all the actions and attitudes of a total narcissist and megalomaniac, and the lesson we should have learned a long time ago — but didn’t — is that such a man cannot be trusted with anything.
Not with a business (he runs them into the ground and has declared bankruptcy six times); not with factual, accurate communication and information (since he lies constantly and makes up his own grandiose, devious ‘reality’); not with sincere, compassionate leadership (since he has zero compassion and prefers to sling hatred and racist lies); not with any powerful position of public influence; and most of all, not with the presidency of the United States!
After his horrendous first presidency, his torrents of lies and self-serving distortions, and his failed attempt to overthrow a valid presidential election and block the peaceful transfer of power… Trump should never have been able to get anywhere near the presidency, ever again.
Our collective motto should have been: Never again.
It was always ‘Trump vs. the U.S.’ — and Trump WON
Yet, here we are. And there HE is, again, serving as the 47th president of the United States. What a ludicrous and dangerous shitshow! What an unmitigated disaster!
Even a basic ‘garden-variety’ megalomaniac should never get anywhere near the White House — yet Trump is a true one-of-a-kind (thankfully!) extreme megalomaniac. He takes ‘average’ megalomania and blows it up into a whole new ‘animal’ — a much more dangerous and out-of-control animal.
After winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote in last year’s election, Trump is emboldened and even more grandiose (and unhinged). He now claims a vast ‘mandate’ and thinks he’s virtually omnipotent.
His newfound power — with all branches of government lined up behind him and supporting him — has filled him with unbridled egotism, vengefulness, and hubris. Today his arrogance and entitled ‘rich boy’ attitudes know no bounds, and he’s talking and acting more and more like an absolute dictator.
It’s megalomania on steroids.
He thinks he is untouchable, and can do anything and everything he wants. (Sadly, he’s steamrolled our justice system so effectively that he may be right about this.)
He truly thinks he is ‘above the law’ (Shame on you, Supreme Court, for aiding and abetting him in this belief.)
He truly believes he has the right to meddle in other nation’s affairs, insult them at will, and use economic or military interventions/bullying to bend them to his will.
The last days of the United States are approaching — fast
Put bluntly: he is a raging, out-of-control megalomaniac who, as president, is endangering both the U.S. and the entire world. He holds the reins of immense power yet again, and there are few ‘adults in the room’ anymore to constrain or restrain him.
In our infinite folly, the people of the U.S. have re-elected a dangerous, amoral madman to the presidency. The rest of the world is aghast and deeply worried — and they should be.
In our infinite folly, the people of the U.S. have elevated an extreme megalomaniac to a position of ultimate worldly power that he is sure to — itching to — abuse.
In our infinite folly, the people of the U.S. have likely ensured the demise of a somewhat peaceful world order and the demise of the United States as a functional semi-democracy.
With a crazed megalomaniac like Trump in charge and ‘leading’ our nation — to looming disaster — the collapse of the U.S. just became a certainty.
