We all have those friends … the ones that we are sure will always have our backs and be there to lift us up when our lives are turned upside down.
However, when the shit hits the fan and they say horrible things and treat you poorly, it truly hurts to the core. It makes you question everything you’ve ever felt about them, it leaves you reeling in pain, and it really pisses you off.
I no longer dwell on these long lost friends. I have nothing but gratitude for them. Yes, you read that right. I have love, compassion, and gratitude for them. While their actions and words cut me like a knife, it also led me to take action and WRITE.
Because of them, I have taken a journey unlike anything I ever expected. Each and every one of us has a choice to make:
We can move ahead and look forward with gratitude and positivity, or we can choose to live in the past with anger and negativity.
I have made some of the most incredibly awesome new friends in the brain injury community that I am forever thankful for. They are the ones that remind me of who I am and that what I am doing is making a difference in the world. Thank you for joining me on this incredible journey.
While I do still have some very dark and trying days, I do my very best to always see the silver lining and be positive. I strive to be an inspiration for others going through life-changing injuries/disabilities.
We are never promised a tomorrow, so live for today!
