The Insane Clown Posse and why lifestyle stereotypes are dangerous.
When the topic of Juggalos comes up the negative stereotypes start to fly, even among diversity-accepting individuals. Juggalos are probably one of the most socially slandered pop subcultures today.
The fans of Insane Clown Posse are extreme by some standards. Drug use, nudity, free expression, and a general ‘party till you drop’ attitude at I.C.P. gatherings has brought about a bad reputation for the fans.
Documentary filmmaker Sean Dunne spent some time just letting the Juggalos speak for themselves. What emerges is a possibility that even among the vilified social outcasts, a community of freedom, safety and acceptance can exist.
Of course all aspects of this subculture may not be the key to broad-ranging social justice, but there is something there. If we listen for a moment, we can hear some of those who are disillusioned with our broken social system. Their voices tell us that they have found family in the chaos of our modern world, stereotypes and bad reputations be damned.
