I noticed something interesting in my life. I realized that when my morning routine consists of things that I’m totally in control of they vary a ton! For instance, Mondays I enjoy going on a morning run. However, this past Monday I did not run. This is because there is no defined schedule and that makes getting out of a warm bet to run in a cold morning that much harder!
Today, though, for the past couple of weeks I’ve enjoyed getting up to go to a sunrise yoga class at my rock gym and then enjoy 30 minutes of rock climbing while listening to the Bible app. It’s such a relaxing way to start the day!
But it’s literally the same thing I did last week. It’s a little different here and there. The number of people, the location I put my mat in compared to last week, the move set we worked on in class, the routes I climbed afterward, the scripture I listened to. Even the weather was different. Both weeks were cold, but this week was also very very foggy. It gave it a nice eerie Halloween vibe!
But it goes to show that even the most routine of routines has small variances within. We ought to appreciate those, right?
God made the world in 6 days and rested on the 7th. Each of those 6 days looked completely different. However, if you take a broad look, you might argue they were the same. God worked, saw it was good, evening and morning came. Boom, over and over until the 7th day.
However, it’s the little variances within the broad routine that we see the beauty and magnificence of creation itself!
How true this can be in our lives too! It won’t be to that gravity, but it still goes to show that if we don’t take time to notice little changes and little details then time will fly past us, and sooner or later you will wonder what happened. Where did it all go?
But when we take time to sit back and relish the little things, then all of a sudden we realize how much time we are actually living.
For instance, when I described my morning routine at the beginning of this article, that was taken verbatim from my routine in October 2020! Today, it’s completely different!
The more we look at a day as just a day, the faster it goes. But if you look at the day and notice the small incremental things that happen minute by minute, then all of a sudden your day becomes a thousand days! And your years are a lifetime!
And it is amazing the things you can do in a lifetime of lifetimes!
The funny thing about time and life is it really is all just perspective. The same event that happened last week can at the same time feel like it happened yesterday and also feel like an eternity ago.
Time relishment boils down to that simple fact: perspective.
