We are seeing a reincarnation, a new Coup Klux Klan.
These patriarchal Christian white supremacist nationalists are the Christian counterpart of ISIS, and they are attempting to capture the United States as their corresponding caliphate.
They use their twisted and malevolent interpretations of scripture to justify and rationalize the marginalization, harassment, denial of rights, persecution, and oppression of entire groups of people based on their social identities.
They have applied Biblical texts, sometimes taken in tandem, and at other times used selectively, to establish and maintain hierarchical positions of power, domination, and privilege over individuals and groups and actions they determined will fulfill their lust for power over others for the purpose of establishing and entrenching a political theocracy in their image.
We witnessed the inevitable outcome of Donald Trump’s coddling and incitement of those he calls “his patriots” whom he “loves” with fully armed radical extremists thundering into the Michigan State House to intimidate legislators into easing Covid restrictions and by plotting to kidnap and execute Michigan’s governor, Gretchen Witmer.
After being summoned by their prophet Donald John Trump, on January 6, 2021 they stormed the Capitol building brandishing Bibles. They wielded large metal Christian crosses around their necks and toted wooden crosses in their hands as weapons.
They held high signs announcing “Jesus Saves,” “Jesus 2020,” “Make America Godly Again.” Some displayed anti-Semitic shirts and hoodies.
According to this crowd, by supporting Donald Trump as their false idol, they are asserting that Jesus would support the separation and caging of children whose families journeyed north to escape persecution; Jesus would condone the pilfering of a legally determined election from another for the purpose of maintaining a grip on power.
They are pronouncing that Jesus would provide major tax breaks and other economic incentives to the rich at the expense of the poor; Jesus would deny voting rights to one’s opponents, deny civil and human rights to the oppressed, and create a nation only for Christian crusaders as they define “Christianity.”
Pope Urban II summoned the First Crusade in Clermont, France to “liberate” Jerusalem from Muslims. Today, these Christian Crusaders are fighting to “liberate” the United States from anyone and everyone whom they identify as “infidels.”
In the summer of 1096, as the crusade began, they murdered several thousand Jews along their way in the lands along the Rhine River, looted and destroyed their homes, as the Crusaders stated,
Because why should we go off to attack the unbelievers in the Holy Land and leave the unbelievers in our midst untouched?
Today’s crusaders intended to kill members of Congress along with the Vice President. Police found pipe bombs scattered around the Capitol. Many of these domestic terrorists carried guns and rifles into the building.
Those first crusaders accused Jews as being treacherous auxiliaries of Muslims. According to Pope Urban II,
Let us first avenge ourselves on them [the Jews] and exterminate them from among the nations so that the name of Israel will no longer be remembered, or let them adopt our faith
When the Crusaders reached Jerusalem in 1099, they pillaged Muslim buildings and killed thousands. The massacre of the Muslim population of Jerusalem reached epic proportions. In addition, the invaders burned the synagogue on the Temple Mount to the ground with all the Jews inside.
One Crusader, an eyewitness to the event wrote:
Men rode in blood up to their knees and bridle reins. It was a just and splendid judgment by God that this place would be filled with the blood of the unbelievers.
The Crusades lasted from 1040 – 1350. By 1204, however, the tide began to turn against the Western European invaders, as the Mamluk dynasty in Egypt drove them out of Palestine and Syria.
We the people of the United States, those of us who believe in the rule of law, those of us who are willing to “protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America,” who believe in free and fair elections, who believe that our diversity is our strength, must drive the treacherous crusaders from the political, social, and yes, religious scene.
But let us be very clear: this will not be easy since the entire history of our country is founded on Christian justifications for oppression, from the Mayflower to the U.S. Capitol Building insurrection.
