Look at the types of creative projects the youth of the world are making today. They will transform the way you think about teenagers. They will transform the way you think about art, and social justice, and gender and news and politics and the world. Produced by youth ages 13 to 19 from around the world, these narrative projects get at the heart of what being a teenager is really like. Teenagers who care. Teenagers who act. Teenagers who create and thereby create change.
Here’s what will you see in the category of Narrative in the Adobe Youth Voices Awards:
“Leave Me Alone” — Based on a true story of how bullying and ignorance can lead to violence.
“The Collector” — A supernatural short film about life and regret…and a debt collector.
“My Cambodia” — A youth group tries to recreate the simple happiness they experienced from the locals on the Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
“Outside the Box” — Everyone has a hidden talent: How do you get people to find them?
“Amazing” — A call to young Anishinaabe people to remind them they are amazing and capable of anything.
“Pathways” — A young man, dressed up for his graduation, goes to look for his brother, Anthony. He confesses to him on his frustrations towards him not being around and promises that he will do better– as he is now an older brother himself.
“Don’t Waste” — A project and music video designed to raise attention to food waste.
“Maze of Life” — How will you make your way through the maze of life?
“Trust in Me” — A narrative based music video about how relationships can break down due to a lack of trust.
“I Would if I Could” — A mother sends a message to her daughter telling he to be careful and not make the mistakes she as a mother made.
This is what teenagers today are doing, talking about, creating. Amazing, isn’t it?
It’s not that you won’t believe the extraordinary power of these videos. It’s that you won’t believe they were created by teenagers.
Watch the videos. Vote for your favorites. Support the creativity of today’s youth.
