What is it like to change my clothes in front of my husband?
A non-event.
He doesn’t look at me. Would never reach in for a grab. Or a smack on the ass. Or steal a kiss.
What would it be like with a lover?
So different.
“Give me some of that!” he’d say.
“I love that ass!”
“God, bend over like that, and we won’t be leaving anytime soon!”
With my hubby, it’s “Don’t come in here when I’m changing!” Umm, we’ve been married like umpteen years. What?
What is worse? Being ignored completely or your spouse hiding from you?
Your wife not taking off her shirt while changing her bra. She is doing some Houdini shit, so she doesn’t show an ounce of skin to her husband.
“Uh, that’s impressive,” you remark in an utterly sarcastic tone.
“Yeah, I don’t like being all cold,” she mumbles.
Both of you not saying what you mean.
SO WHY CAN’T YOU BE NAKED IN FRONT OF ME?
Or maybe want to touch me occasionally?
“You know I’m not in the mood to get into this discussion again.”
“Do we have to start?”
“Why does it always boil down to sex for you?”
Or your wife waiting until you leave the room to get undressed.
“Didn’t you want to change?” you ask.
“In a minute…” she stalls.
She’ll find another thing to do instead. Hair or makeup. Or tidy up. Anything to avoid stripping down naked in front of YOU.
That’s when your confidence takes a plummet off the proverbial cliff. Your partner doesn’t want you.
The transition from lovers to furniture, I call it.
I’ve walked in on my husband and gotten the angry “I’m in here!” reply.
Woah! My presence was barely tolerated. Let alone complimented.
“Ok. I’ll leave you alone, then.”
And we know where that leads — here! To dead bedrooms central headquarters. No more sensual touching. Flinching in hallways when you brush past each other. Immediately covering up when you step out of the shower. Swatting hands away.
“Don’t!” is at the start of every sentence.
Cold interactions. Even less warmth is the result. It becomes weird to look at each other. Forget about touching.
Then, maybe you start thinking this isn’t normal. Why should you live this way? Why can’t you be desired? Perhaps it’s not you after all.
“This isn’t the marriage I thought I’d have….”
You toy with cheating. “It can’t be that hard to find someone!”
What I wouldn’t give to feel passion again?
Famous last words. And only a matter of time until you are doing things you never thought you’d do.
It’s a downward spiral.
And it all started with being uncomfortable changing clothes in front of your spouse — that small intimacy stripped from your normal routine. Then, other ones disappear. Maybe no more soft caresses on your back. Or close-mouthed pecks as kisses or turning your head away, even.
Don’t let this happen.
Acknowledge your partner. Make an effort to see them.
I’m a prime example of what not to do. Read my almost 800 articles and learn why unappreciated wives or husbands stray. It’s not rocket science, people. Sexual rejection is a killer of marriages.
