School dress codes have long been a topic of debate, with many arguing that current policies unfairly target girls and students of color. Current research indicates that overly restrictive dress codes can be detrimental to student health, education, and development.
During a board meeting, an Arizona dad recently protested his local school board’s proposed changes to the student dress code by stripping down to a crop top and booty shorts [1].
The school district was considering allowing students to show their midriffs, wear tank tops and spaghetti straps, and make other alterations to the dress code [2] [3]. The dad, Ira Latham, wanted to demonstrate how inappropriate and revealing he felt the proposed changes were, so he stripped down to a crop top and shorts at a school board meeting to make his point. His provocative protest outfit drew attention to his opposition to the changes in dress code. It was shocking for me since he could protest in a different and appropriate manner. However, considering this as a very heated discussion, it is acceptable at some point since each party from both sides tries to show his best and prove the right.
