It’s possible in this election cycle for all of us to forget what happened last week, let alone six months ago. We’re faced with one scandal after another—on both sides. It creates such frenzy and disorientation that it’s easy to lose track of what’s actually been said on the campaign trail.
Here is an updated list of some of Candidate Trump’s statements about America, American elections, public policy, foreign policy, the media, and life:
- “The election is absolutely being rigged by the dishonest and distorted media pushing Crooked Hillary – but also at many polling places – SAD.”
- “Of course there is large scale voter fraud happening on and before election day. Why do Republican leaders deny what is going on? So naive!”
- “So many cities are corrupt and voter fraud is very, very common.”
- “[Hillary Clinton] wants open borders. We could have 600 million people pour into our country. Think of it. Once you have open borders like that, you don’t have a country anymore.” (Note: The U.S. has 325 million people)
- “I got really mad at him the other day,” said Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway. “He said, ‘I think we’ll win, and if not, that’s okay too. And I said, ‘It’s not okay! You can’t say that! Your dry-cleaning bill is like the annual salaries of the people who came to your rallies, and they believe in you!’ ”
- “Why can’t we use nukes?”
- “I know more about ISIS than the generals do.”
- “Russia, find the 30,000 emails that are missing…you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”
- “You know, it really doesn’t matter what the media write as long as you’ve got a young and beautiful piece of ass.”
- “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters.”
- [McCain] “is not a war hero.”
- “I would bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding.”
- “I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.”
- “Obama is the founder of ISIS.”
- “Putin is a nicer person than I am.”
- “I moved on her like a bitch, but I couldn’t get there. And she was married. I did try and f–k her. She was married.”
- “By the way, your daughter,” says Stern in a 2004 interview. “She’s beautiful,” Trump says.”Can I say this? A piece of ass,” Stern says. “Yeah,” Trump says.
- “If I weren’t happily married and, ya know, her father, perhaps I’d be dating her.”
- “You could see there was blood coming out of her wherever.”
- “I have so many fabulous friends who happen to be gay, but I am a traditionalist.”
- “I hear that baby crying, I like it. What a beautiful baby. Actually, I was only kidding, you can get the baby out of here.”
- “It’s freezing and snowing in New York – we need global warming!”
- “Women who seek abortions should receive ‘some form of punishment.’”
- “I will build a great wall – and nobody builds walls better than me, believe me – and I’ll build them very inexpensively. I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will make Mexico pay for that wall. Mark my words.”
- “There were people…cheering on the other side of New Jersey… large Arab populations… cheering as the World Trade Center came down, It was well-covered at the time.”
- “I hate some of these people, I hate ’em!”
- “I have never asked God for forgiveness.”
Many voters in this election are angry—and rightfully so. Our country is facing significant social, economic, and security challenges. Yet, it’s important to recognize that harsh words don’t solve problems and facts matter.
